IMHO a lot depends on the outcome of the mid-term elections. If Republicans make significant gains in the Senate I think one will see much more of these "alternative" health plan proposals coming down the pike. Driving the train on this will be a couple of factors:
;
1. The numbers on how many young people have signed up for policies under the AFCA and whether the age grouping is balanced. In other words whether the Act is working or not.

2. The Republican need to respond to the charge of "Well what is your party's alternative?" by at least having a proposal in place in time for the 2016 Presidential race; and

3. The level of dissatisfaction among the electorate as to whether they feel the AFCA was "foisted" upon them without meaningful debate at the time, or that the President reneged on his promises about the new system.

As you can see I don't think the present system is a done deal by any means and will probably be a central issue in the 2016 Presidential race. And I think that is a healthy thing. We never did have a ful and fair debate on the present system because of the politics of having to get it done by the 2010 midterm elections and I feel this was a mistake in the long run. Congress voted for what they didn't understand based on representations made that were not accurate which is not away to put in a National Health plan.
