Ah, the old local surplus issue. Ignorant local yokels say "That's our stuff and I want it really cheap" while those who actually work to produce the goods want to sell the locally produced goods for the highest price to foreigners.

<If we export our "home grown" oil then fossil fuel prices will rise for American consumers. It's a world market and we are luckly to have some of this stuff "stranded" here.

The only folks who will make lots of $$ will be the very wealthy investors that just want to make a "Quick Buck".

Venezuelans are seriously poor. They have a huge surplus of oil. They keep prices really really cheap at home instead of selling it overseas for a fortune and being better off. In Canada decades ago when we were there [and probably still] the same argument was made that Canadians should have cheap oil instead of letting producers sell it to Americans for big profits. In NZ we are surrounded by ocean and fish so local yokels think they should get cheap schnapper and other fish, so cheap they can feed it to the cat, instead of selling it to rich Japanese who pay a fortune, and swarming billions of Chinese who will pay more. Also in NZ local yokels want cheap milk instead of world price milk. They want farmers to get up before dawn and work hard to provide cheap milk. If they want cheap milk, they should get a job producing it.

If people want cheap oil, buy shares in an oil company and vote to give it away cheap, or start your own oil company. Don't rob other people who are willing to invest and work. Slavery went out of fashion centuries ago [in civilized places].

It's amusing that the USA has absurd export control laws. It shows they are likely to go down the Zimbabwean gurgler too, because they don't understand economics and will do very bad things when the time is right. The export controls were introduced at a time when there was no incentive to export so it was probably a law which hurt a few people but had no general effect. Now that there's a general effect, there's some squawking. But ignorant Americans will squawk about letting "our oil" go overseas. They don't want a Keystone pipeline but they want oil? They want Canadians to move the oil to the coast and sell it to China but they want oil?

Life's a giggle,
