Learning the names of rocks and being friends of big shots like President Reagan doesn't make somebody a scientist. If they don't understand that one swallow does make a summer, they are not a scientist. Einstein, Popper and Feynman [actual scientists] did understand that, and propounded it: <James Powell is obviously not a scientist or he would know that in science, one swallow does make a summer. As Einstein said, it didn't matter how many scientists agreed with him as it would take only 1 to show he was wrong. James Powell then does "science by motivation".> You must be slightly suspicious of Powell since Reagan thought he was a good bloke though perhaps you think Reagan just made a mistake.

Having heresy trials is not science either, but that's also popular as "proof of the Settled Science". Settled Science is an oxymoron.

The Settled Scientists and political process is like the Spanish Inquisition. No heresy allowed. en.wikipedia.org Maybe some of your ancestors experienced the Spanish Inquisition.
