History sorts these things out. Real historians are not liberal or conservative. They may be liberal, but they're interested in the facts. People like McCollough. Pseudo historians like Doug Brinkley and Doris Kearns Goodwin are liberals and will distort the history to fit their views (see Doug Brinkley's nonsense "The Great Deluge").
