Hi there epicure .... I like to be believe that I'm truly Central in my political and social positions. There are times when I can support comments made by those on the so-called right as well as from those on the so-called left.
For me it's very much a case of attempting to apply logic and constructive evaluation of a position or utterance made from any source. I don't believe any of us should presume a monopoly of what is, or isn't, the Truth of something, or anything else, for that matter.
The way I see it the Real Truth of Anything is not dependent for its existence on the belief, acceptance, or otherwise, of any individual.
Having, and preserving, an open mind and the willingness to respect the position of others, irrespective of their particular bias, is central, in my opinion, to any Democratic society and the principles thereof.
With that in mind, the reason I posted what I did on this board, of which you are the moderator, as well as on the board of those whom, I presume, you regard as being well right of center, was out of interest in terms of the opinions and comments that would be expressed from both sides of the political and social spectra.
In my original post, on the question of accumulated wealth, I was inclined to gravitate more towards the slightly more controversial end of the spectrum, rather than towards the more mundane, in an attempt to hopefully elicit diverse responses.
In that way I believed that I may then have access to a wider range of opinions, as well as comments or recommendations or even opposition, from which I could then derive a more comprehensive conclusion.
The question of wealth and the income gap is currently occupying much time and space in many parts of the capitalist world. It's my belief that any form of acceptable solution or compromise is going to take a consideration of many and diverse view points. I doubt that it will be a case of one size fits all ....
So, having said what I've said, it's not my intention to be the cause of consuming any time that you can ill afford, nor contribute, in any way, to the unhappiness of this board.
It goes without saying that the action of banning, or un-banning, on this board resides with you.
If you believe that I've contravened any aspect of this board's membership criteria, as set out in its header, then one has no choice but to abide by your action. |
