Ok, you don't trust your fellow Americans, but only those who make the "correct" decisions.

This certainly is true at many levels when speaking about large groups of Americans. Individual Americans can be trusted much further. And truly, it isn't about Americans, it is about people in general.
But I would say that I trust people and Americans much more than you or any other democrat does.

I trust people to pick themselves up and dust themselves off and find a way to take care of themselves and their responsibilities as long as meddling do-gooders, who always claim to know what's best for others, don't offer them hand-outs that they forcibly took from others. Thus sabotaging the opportunity for the recipients learn from their mistakes, the desire to persevere and the self-esteem that is developed by being self sufficient. Progressive/Liberal/Democrat entitlement programs send the message to the recipients of the entitlements "You are not good enough to survive on your own. You need us to take care of you". And that is the message of a true elitist.

I trust people to have compassion for those who happen on some hard times and to help people out without having to be forced by meddling do-gooders who not only think that to know what is best for the people who are having difficult times, they also claim to know which people are deserving of your forced charity and they also claim to know the right amount of forced charity to take from others.

So it is disingenuous to assert that I don't trust my fellow Americans when you feel that Americans must be forced to do the right thing. Res ipsa loquitor....

But to further highlight your disingenuousness, there were times in America where conservatives outnumbered liberals. Are you going to claim that you would like democracy in that setting? People only like democracy when they are in the majority. In a democracy it is perfectly legitimate to vote away the rights of individuals. And as the U.S. moves closer and closer to being a democracy rather than a constitutional republic, we are seeing this happen more and more. The U.S. Constitution is still a revered document, but it is largely ignored now. Sometimes it presents a little bit of an obstacle to the democratic erosion of individual rights, but only the crazy libertarians and tea partiers really care about that anymore as they cling to their bibles and guns.

So again, yes, i do not trust my fellow Americans to make the right decisions for me. I am the only person who can or should make personal decisions for me. I don't care how many billions of people vote to take away my individual rights, every single one of them is wrong. Being in the majority doesn't change that. It just allows you to force me to do what you want me to do.

In other words, you are an elitist.

I think it is very clear that liberals are the true elitists. Only an elitist would have the confidence to always know what is best for everyone else. Part of the basic belief system of a true conservative is that they not only don't know what is best for others, even if they do, they have no right to force you to act in your own interest.

So no, it was a giant illogical leap to call me an elitist in the first place, but especially so from your glass house.
