This vitrification thing could get interesting, the more I think about it. Incinerators unfortunately are not going to disappear any time soon. There has been too much capital invested to abandon them. So the next best thing is - to the degree possible - minimize the ongoing damage incinerators are doing to the environment.

The plasma vitrification solution is a relatively low cost "accessory" that mitigates the vast majority of fly ash, reducing the cost of operations and a major source of environmental pollution. There are incredibly long lead times to get a WTE built from scratch. Getting community support, planning, permitting, engineering...it takes as long to build a WTE plant as it does a mine.

None of that exists when you are selling to existing plants. If the result will be cleaner operations and less pollution then it seems to me community support will be a non-issue. I would not be surprised to see some sort or mandates for this in the future if the technology works well enough.

The market cap for the company is ~$80MM, and I think revenue last year was around $25MM. If Alter is able to achieve a dramatically shorter the sales cycle with the vitrification solution vs. new WTE plants then the revenue impact has the potential to completely change the game.

I haven't tried to do the numbers, but at $300/ton for disposing incinerator ash the payback for this accessory should be attractive. Now that there is a commercial-scale reference facility in production, that should also help bolster / shorten the sales cycle. Hopefully we will get more of an idea over the rest of this year as to the potential of this product line.
