At least she waited until the ice all melted. If she's coming to the Atlanta area, the place was an icy disaster this past week... roads closed, wrecks, traffic jams, all highways closed, etc. If you watched the news, I'm sure you saw some of carnage. Those 2" of snow turned to solid ice in a very short time.

My dear wife had gone to the doctor at Emory Clinic on the east side of Atlanta last Tuesday and left there at 1:15. The snow had started about 11:30 and every business in the region decided to send everybody home at the same time. How clever is that! She called me about 3 saying she was going nowhere fast. I stayed on the phone with her for the next 4 1/2 hours with Google maps open and got her off the interstate and guided her through a series of hilly back roads until I could get her to a hotel that still had rooms available. In all, she went a total of about 12 or 13 miles between 1:15 and 7:30 when she finally got to the place... still 25 miles from home. Next morning she left about 11 and took a familiar state hwy home and that took an hour and a half. Fortunately, her car has great traction control and two lower gears. That coupled with 20 winters in New Jersey where driving on snowy icy roads is common, she went up and down hills... slowly of course... passing all these dumb southerners who just sat spinning their wheels trying to get up even modest slopes. Needless to say traffic was really light on Wednesday.

Oh, and she got bumped once Tuesday while still on the interstate by a guy not paying attention when she pulled forward about 3 feet and he hit the gas and then the brakes and just slid right into her. He had a tiny little car so all she got was a couple of scratches on her bumper, but he had some real bumper damage. Nobody hurt though.

Weather should be good for the next week or so.
