There is a concept in economics called "natural monopolies" where it is generally agreed that SOME sorts of enterprises operate more efficiently (for example: gas pipelines or water supply) where there is just one monopoly supplier (instead of a confusing welter of dozens trying to compete and getting in each other's way and doing it inefficiently and harmfully) and that one monopoly supplier is regulated for the public good.

So... some monopolies can be considered 'good', while others very definitely 'bad'.
