The fossil record isn't a history library with a clear record of continuity. Go out in your backyard and find a fossilized rabbit or of someone that fought in the Alamo. Of course there won't be a direct link to everything if there was not a corresponding geological event to cover and preserve it. Mutations are a little harder to explain but not impossible and proof is right in every living things DNA.

You have to be able to accept a few things on faith and use your brain and imagination and for someone that believes Jesus is his spirit guide and anything that can't be explained is supernatural it should not be too hard for you.
