Apple reported record iPhone/iPad sales in the December quarter and are likely to report flat revenues in Q2. Any "dwindling" is in the future.
The idea that if sales do decline a small amount that they are no longer a brand that people pay a premium for is prima facie wrong. It means that fewer people are willing to pay that premium not that they are no longer in the category.
Both of these things amount to Apple growing slower than the broader market, which isn't a new trend. It has been happening for years. This, in turn, means one thing: consumers are preferring non-Apple devices more frequently than they are preferring Apple ones.

Yes, that still leaves Apple with the ability to grow sales, but it doesn't bode will if the "ecosystem" of connected devices becomes dominated by a platform other than iOS, as Apple has gone out of their way to put iOS on its own island.
