I have been trying to imagine a case where killing a killer would serve a useful purpose. The problem is that the punishment is willy nilly. People should know what is a crime and how crimes are addressed. The way it is now, some people (very guilty) get away scott free while others (perhaps framed but without any financial or social power) get convicted. So long as our society is wishy washy and irrational, it is probably best that we leave ultimate and irreversible damage off the table. Because...on whose hearsay will you or I accept the conclusion of "no doubt"?? I think if it was your own child or spouse you would probably distrust all testimony accept your own two eyes..

If you term a reliance on reason a "bias"--that is fine. My opinions are very informed and reached as fairly as I can reason them out. I think it is ludicrous to pretend that the entire Israelite army of 12,000 men fought hands to hand with the Midianites and slaughtered all the men, women, and children (accepting the virgins which they were instructed to "keep alive for yourself")--and lost not a single man! They were incredibly outnumbered by the Midianite warriors! Just look at the inventory of the booty they took after slaughtering the others. Even after all that, there were 32,000 virgins taken captive! You think that the opinion that this absurdity actually occurred is a reasonable opinion?? Hello??
