Hmmmm. This is cruddy meteorology. The jet stream and geostrophic balance...it is what keeps denser, cold air to the north without constantly spilling south. Rossby waves are large waves, kind of guided ripples as the Earth turns. Within a Rossby wave, one gets small ripples. A good ripple can cause the jet to fold, which leads to the "membrane" that holds the cold air back to just break loose and spill southward. This happens of a lot of spatial scales, but the set up now....

With the ridge finally breaking down over California, a series of ripples are now propagating across the country. I foresee a good fold in the jet that could lead to a "spill" of cold air over the Gulf from New Orleans to Tallahassee starting around Feb 13. This will be interesting. This ripple could result in more snow falling over the Gulf coast and perhaps into Daytona Beach. The freeze may stretch down to northern Miami.

Of course, it all depends on the jet folding and breaking. It's fun to play the hypothetical game. I don't see it in any model right now, and the weather models are damn excellent considering the degrees of freedom. But hey, that is what everyone does on the stock market, eh? Damn job #'s. LOL!
