It depends, IMHO, on what the "plain meaning" of the email language in question is. In other words, if a reasonable lay peron would take the meaning one way then I don't think he is obligated to research the scientific context of the meaning. I may be wrong about that, but that is what I think off the top--without further research on the subject.

Let's hope the trial clarifies this.
