iOS punches way above its market share weight due to its demographics/usage but there is some limit to that. I dont know the exact number, but I question whether a 1-2% share in India is truly sustainable.
You make a superb point here. A clear advantage Apple has is the user demographics. They spend far more readily on apps, and everything else for that matter. I deal with developers and this does make a difference, as the first question often raised is, "shouldn't we design for the iOS first, as that's where the money is?"

As you point out, the money per user is clearly there, but you have to wonder where the inflection point is where market share becomes too small to continue justifying it. Total app revenue, per the link you shared with me, is a good equalizer for that. If you have 20% share but 3x the revenue per user of anyone else, you still dominate on a revenue basis. Will be interesting to see how iOS vs Google Play trends continue on this basis. You were pointing out that iOS is increasing dominance in Japan ... that is something I've overlooked and is surprises me, as it stands in stark contrast to the global trend that is the opposite. Do you have insight into why iOS is doing so well there over the past year or so?
