I am an American by choice and have been fortunate to live the experiences in the third world as well as in the US. I have seen the progression of the US from a benevolent nation to other countries ravaged by WWII to one today that is mean to even its own citizens, that refuses to accomodate and help those folks whose ancestors were brought here against their will.

I have a closeness to S. Africa because that is where a brown-skinned man, very educated but also very proud, started his freedom movement that brought down the empire that boasted that the sun did not set on that empire. It is the land of Mandela and Tutu and that that of Botha and clan.

We can all go back to the history of the World nations and each be proud except if you are a German or sometimes an American. While I do not support British imperialism, I grant the fact that the British did spend money to uplift their colonies, they took a lot of interest in the cultures of their colonies and did not export their brand of culture to their colonies etc. Similarly barring the history of slavery, many Americans are proud of their history.

But now let us talk about today. In the past 20 years, the US has declined precipitously whereas the other nations, particularly India and China have advanced 10 folds. There is a cultural revolution in progress i n the US today. And the lines are clearly defined wherein the battlefront has moved to within the right wingers; the Republican party and Tea Party. Let us sit back and watch.

With regards to this thread, you will find that some of us including yours truly have criticized Obama. We have done so not out of disrespect to the man or his office. Instead we have done so for the love of this country. I like him very much and if we need to critique and criticize him to make him a success, we do so. I only ban those folks who come here with the sole purpose of hatred for him and join the crowd who want to obstruct his efforts in order to oust him from office.

With regards to you, notice how my posts have consistently maintained that America should act in a manner that the world nations will applaud. During my growing up years, I was fortunate like you to view America from overseas while I consumed bread made with American wheat sent as food aid.

Please continue to view and provide your opinions of US from overseas. I know it is a perspective that is not available to us as Americans. And please remember, that we know of our history. And yes, I do not ban people who are somewhat little bit further out to the left of center. Nor do I do so whop are on the opposite side of the spectrum provided they express their opinions in a civil way.

Hope this explains to whatever degree you see what I strive to make this thread and to some extent who I am and what my background is.
