Tesla (stock) is on fire!

February 10, 2014, 1:42 PM

Shares of Tesla Motors Inc. TSLA +0.52% traded as high as $199.30 Monday, before ending the day at $196.56, a new closing high. The previous record was set at the end of September 2013, before a series of car fires sent shares into a two-month tailspin.

The maker of luxury electric sports sedans closed at $120.5 on Nov. 26, before beginning a comeback.

Last month, Tesla said it had sold nearly 6,900 vehicles in the fourth quarter, 20% more than expected.

Its current market capitalization of $22.87 billion is more than a third that of General Motors GM +1.38% , $57.41 billion.
