Thanks Elmo! ... here's some news about OSA & Java on the Server.
I haven't studied the story, just skimmed it. But it does look like they're starting to make some decent progress now.

WebLogic's Tengah Java Application Server Chosen By Novell For Its Open Solutions Architecture (OSA) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW YORK (Dec. 10) BUSINESS WIRE -Dec. 10, 1997--
Novell Licenses Tengah to Enhance Its Distributed
Application Development Environment for Java
WebLogic Inc., a pioneering developer of Java(TM) technologies, today announced that its Tengah Java application server has been selected as a pure-Java server platform for networking giant Novell's Open Solutions Architecture (OSA) -- the framework for NetWare(TM) and other company products.
Novell's substantial installed base is using Java-based solutions for an increasing share of its information technology needs. Tengah's comprehensive suite of Java application assembly and deployment services, incorporated in OSA, enables Novell customers and partners to rapidly deliver increasingly complex server-based applications and services with ease.
As a Java application server for OSA, Tengah will provide Novell's VARs with the tools to engineer commercial-grade Java applications. Tengah's application assembly services include distributed components, distributed objects, database integration, Web integration, event management, and global directory (NDS) support.
Novell's end-users can then use the Tengah-enabled OSA to deploy and manage Java applications developed by Novell VARs or other third parties. In addition to delivering Tengah to its VARs and end-users, Novell will also be using the Tengah platform for its internal development of other OSA components.
"As Novell defines our new architecture and strategies centered around Java and manageability, Novell will partner with innovative companies to deliver and promote easier development of Java server-based solutions," said Chris Stone, senior vice president of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at Novell.
"Together, OSA and Tengah deliver a stable, scalable Java server platform on NetWare that allows us to deliver the manageable solutions for the Internet to meet our customer needs."
The Tengah application server makes it easy to build and deploy distributed Java applications across heterogeneous Java platforms and databases.
Tengah, written entirely in Java, delivers a breakthrough suite of integrated application assembly services that include Enterprise and Distributed JavaBeans, Remote Method Invocation (RMI), Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), Servlets, Event Management, Java Naming and Directory Services (JNDI), and CORBA integration. Through its compliance with these Java industry standards, Tengah's users are protected from the risk inherent in proprietary programming interfaces.
"Novell's choice of WebLogic's Tengah as a core component of OSA is a very significant validation of our product strategy and position as the industry-leading vendor of Java application servers," said WebLogic Chief Technology Officer Paul Ambrose. "As a result of our strategic relationship with Novell, WebLogic's Java application server technology is being introduced to a critically important and vast customer base,
and Novell is substantially reducing the time to market for Java applications on NetWare." Practical Details
An early access release of OSA for NetWare, equipped with a subset of Tengah's components including JDBC and Servlets, is available today on the Novell Web site to qualified Novell VARs. WebLogic also makes the complete Tengah 3.0 release available to Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), OEMs and end-user application developers.
