The conversion also makes sense if you're a fleet operator... but, I don't remember where the tipping point in the numbers was last time I looked. There's a reason you see a lot of cities operating their bus fleets on gas. They'll claim its because they're green... but, they'd not be that green if it wa$n't about the other green... more with the engine life cycle issues being a more obvious cost issue in vehicles that sustain near constant use.

Mixed fuel, for individual users, makes sense for lots of other reasons, too...

Diesel and gas have different enough sources and distribution that the economics are different, and the variations in prices can have different drivers and dependencies. If you use diesel, you're fully dependent on the cyclic operations of refineries... the annual rotation in changes in fractionation... and their occasional shut-downs due to the need to maintain or repair and upgrade systems. The economic inefficiency that results in different fuels being priced differently... can save you a lot of money if you can exploit it, while others can't.

Your laptop uses batteries... but it ALSO plugs in ? Probably, there's a reason a huge market in extra batteries hasn't sprung up... and most users don't and won't find it more convenient to swap batteries than to find and plug into an outlet ? A seasoned traveler likely carries a spare, or two... but, that probably wouldn't make any sense at all in an auto ? Adding that extra fuel tank to your F-350 doesn't cost anywhere near what adding an extra battery would ?
