You're wasting your time considering the science of it...

It's really about marketing...

What you really need to work on is a much catchier catch phrase that incorporates that idea...

And, then, the same morons who advocate global warming now... will knowingly nod, and advocate your idea instead... when your catch phrase seems it is way cooler than the warming advocates, who aren't cool any more, given that... well, you know.

Fads always work that way.

So, with that as a given, you can follow exactly the same path as the warming advocates have...

Whatever your politics are... pick whatever that requires that you most despise... and blame that for killing the plankton. It doesn't really matter how irrational the connections made are, between that thing you hate and the crime in the murder of the plankton... you only need to make sure there is already a decent sized minority of useful idiots who also gladly hate on that thing you intend to blame. Recruit them. They won't care whether your science is right or not. They'll gladly label your intended targets as murderers... and hoot down anyone with the temerity to disagree. And, then, you'll have captured all of liberal academia...

Pair that with a catchy catch phrase... and you can make millions from your public interest advocacy over the next two decades... before "science" has a change to prove you're full of shit...

That's what Al Gore did...

If you also happened to played a role in observing while others invented the internet... you could even get elected vice President.

And, by that time, you'll have so much momentum built up behind the marketing campaign and the political connections that depend on it being sustained... that you'll easily fend off the truth for another decade, at least... just based on the inertia in the egos of those who you conned into advocating your concept.

The key is... it doesn't really matter what's killing the plankton, or if anything is... You just need to pick your catch phrase, and the target that you want other people to blame... and then stick to your story... no matter what the science actually shows.
