Sorry for the long delay. Senomyx has had great potential for a long time. They've had strategic relationships with the likes of Nestle', Pepsi, and Firmenich for years. The last conference call didn't have great results - revenue was down but the outlook was very positive. Importantly, the reception was positive.

A month or so ago I met a member of the board and took the opportunity to talk with him briefly about Senomyx. His explanation for the rise in in price was that the market liked the new strategy. I was skeptical and told of my concern when the company announced it was going to market direct to food companies rather than rely mostly on flavor companies. It had seemed like a Hail Mary, and one that was likely to annoy those with whom they had existing relationships. Still, I said, 'I won't argue with success.'

I've been half-expecting a big announcement - a new deal or a statement that Pepsi was deploying Senomyx sweeteners in a big way - that would explain the run-up. The stock has tripled in six months, doubled in the last two. That's too long to keep a secret. Maybe it is as simple as the market likes the new strategy, but the timing doesn't match well. This is a very pleasant mystery to ponder.
