Cutting expenses is easy for WiLAN, they just curtail litigation. Maintaining or increasing revenues is hard, because it means increasing litigation expenses. WiLAN has no court leverage which means their revenue stream is going to decline without taking hits on earnings and cash.

An IP enforcement business model without any ability to bring the enforcement part of the equation is not going to work. So far the approach has been to keep flipping the coin in court hoping for a victory. I say it that way because they've shown little ability to earn a victory, instead relying on luck.

Every loss emboldens target licensees to hold out for low ball settlements. This has worked as we've seen a number of recent settlements that have added little to the bottom line, not even recovering litigation costs.

Let me break this down for you: signing licensing deals is easy, signing deals that add to bottom line is hard and requires skill both in the court room and the negotiating room. The market has clearly and justifiably lost confidence in WiLAN's ability to succeed in both of these realms.
