2/14/14 Contest update
Shrek made a fortune for DreamWorks Animation. Will Shkreli do the same for Retrophin? That remains to be seen. But, despite a pullback on Friday, Martin Shkreli did make a bunch of bucks for investors in his company this week, boosting 9 Contest portfolios as well as the Contest median.
It was also a good week for most biotechs, with the Contest median closing Friday up 18.97% YTD (vs. up 15.29% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Biotech Index up 13.63% YTD (vs. up 8.57% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index moved back into positive territory for the year and is now up 1.61% YTD (vs. down -1.21% YTD a week ago).
Boasting a 20 % RTRX allocation, JB118’s portfolio had a huge week and is now our leader with a 63.60% gain for the year. Second place GUERL’s portfolio, with 15% in RTRX, is up 59.63% YTD and GENE’s portfolio, up 47.10% YTD, climbed into third place on the back of a 20% allocation to TKMR.
At Friday's close, all 46 Contest portfolios continued in the black and 36 of the 46 are still beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
Portfolio adjustments: none
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a fun President’s Day weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
