How do consortiums sell military material to both sides with financial gain the only "moral" consideration? I suppose rationalization can carry people a long way across any moral chasm. People do not easily turn their backs on any club. The Republican club is particularly judgemental if you seem to be turning your back even ever so slightly on your fellows. There goes your connections and even your friends and family.

Consider that atheists for many centuries needed to hide the depth of their disbelief for fear of ostracism and far worse. Even today, no free thinker desirous of any public office is likely to admit to being opposed to simple-minded tribal superstitions for fear of retribution in many forms. The truth is that the majority of humans (especially in America) have a despite for people of reason and for those who feel they are above superstitious nonsense. Only in the classrooms and the research labs can our reason prevail. When we are out among the crowds and walking past their superstitious meeting places, we must be vigilant as to what we say. Free Thinkers are not chosen people. And Chosen people (the followers of almost every religious sect and creed) understand just how very special they are! Just ask them!
