When 13 my father gave me Will & Ariel's "History of Western Civilization" at X-mas and those written parting thoughts of Will to his wife were right at the starting page. Thought immediately it was the most beautiful thing i had ever read, still is to this day.
Maybe for a Christian or a Muslim its something in their books, maybe one or two quotes i could think of almost come close, but this was far more real for me. Love of knowledge, the good quest, total devotion & passion, fearless in the face of death for the love of your life, but not clinging or selfish, the way we all should be. Able to let go with dignity & poise, you just say goodbye & wish them well, because your life was always your own show, no one does it for you. |
