Tim,

<OFF TOPIC>

PTEC's other acquisition last
year besides VCI was a Japanese company that sells primarily
to Japan.

The company was NJK and it was for PICO mostly.

TOKYO, JAPAN, 1997 JAN 6 (Newsbytes) -- By Martyn Williams. Phoenix Technologies Ltd. [NASDAQ: PTEC] has announced it has acquired Tokyo based software company Nihon Joho Kenkyujo K.K. (NJK). The San Jose, California, based company paid $1.4 million in cash for NJK.
Phoenix said NJK would provide software and services to customers of its Pico product line, a range of products for information appliances such as smart phones, point-of-sale terminals, and digital cameras. The company also said it would help provide those appliances with support for interconnect standards including PC Card/CardBus, Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI), and Universal Serial Bus.
Several Japanese customers already buy Phoenix's Pico products, such as Fujitsu, Hitachi, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, NEC, and Seiko Instruments. NJK has previously worked closely with Phoenix and its Japanese customers and the buy is seen as a natural move for Phoenix to expand its penetration in Japan.
In a company statement, Junichi Fujine, president of Phoenix's Japanese subsidiary, Phoenix Technologies K.K., said, "We have worked closely with NJK in the support of our joint customers for several years. By joining forces with NJK, Phoenix expands its capacity to serve and develop software foundations for information appliance manufacturers in Japan, one of the fastest growing markets and technology centers for these systems. This acquisition increases the staff of Phoenix's Japanese operations to over 50 people in total."
