I don't ignore anyone. I wouldn't ignore an idiot in my house--nor my community. I won't ignore them on my planet. Remember that many people refuse to think and will believe whatever they hear. So these loud voices of irrationality need to be countered because it might be your grandkid that gets brainwashed.

Besides that, I believe people can be educated. People like Dan Barker (video debate below) show that many people can be reached when ridiculous people are confronted. Barker himself was an evangelist for a couple of decades before thoughtfully DE-converting. Here he tears apart (nicely) a superstitious person.



From 1:57, Dan gives a very decent description of what atheism is--and what it isn't. This is a simple point that theists are continually (and deliberately) attempting to misrepresent. So it is important to know.
