The big deal about WhatsApp is the number of users. Some may already be using Facebook, but others are new, meaning that Facebook can enlarge its user base and get more revenue from advertisers.

As an investor, I tend to avoid companies whose main source of revenue is from advertising. But it's still a significant source of their profits.
