When a majority of the cars on the road are hybrid or electric, noise pollution will be reduced.
Well, not really. Most of the noise pollution you hear these days come from trucks, tricked out cars, and tires rolling on the roads. It's like the smog problem in California. I think more than half of the smog these days comes from about 10% of the vehicles.

As for the electric car concept itself, it's still not economically viable, which is why a Tesla is more of a luxury item than anything else. But for a rich liberal area like Northern California, it's absolutely perfect because there are a ton of people willing to pay that much just for the environmental statement. And they also get a fun car that can serve as an "eco status symbol."

The real challenge for mainstream America is extending the range of economy cars like the Nissan Leaf. Once that gets 150-200 miles per charge, then we'll see a gigantic shift toward electric.
