As pointed out, its not til Europe gets reinfused with the many of classics from Byzantium around 12th century we see things really start to revive that dreariness with art, music, architecture, law/gov't, philosophy & science. Even romantic love & chivilary come in with the poetic vengence and men find the world start to open up for them to investigate that is not kept cloaked in mystery by the latin Church & infallible Pope/Kings.
Christianity/religion is just a component to the whole picture, back then when you got passed the millinialists worrying about the world coming to an end, the first stages of the Rennaisance begin, trade & invention start to widen the doors of the human mind and art, industry & literature start to flourish. And did they go wild, just look at the flowering that took place, then like the Mullahs in Islam, the Church tried to clamp down. |
