That is the big problem--turnout. In 2010, the Rs rattled their base with talks of "death panels" and signs that lambasted the government along with "Don't touch my Medicare", lol. A very fervent, deeply misinformed electorate turned out to vote for them in that midterm. The problem for the Democrats is that they aren't as completely shameless as the Rs--they won't simply scream bald faced lies to get their base ginned up. Not that they won't lie, but they are more ashamed about it, so they have more problems getting the base out in midterm years.
