For example, as of 2006, in the previous 10 years, 15 Nobels have gone to American scientists, while only 7 have gone to scientist in other nations. Prior to that, of the six most important important innovations over a 25 year period, five were essentially US innovations.
Even as recently as 2009, 40% of published biomedical research in the world came from the United States.

Really, in terms of health care innovation, it isn't a close race. No doubt, Obamacare will change that picture if it isn't repealed, but as of today we're still far, far ahead of anyone else.
It is worth noting that even some big inventions and research, like Computed Tomography, which technically were invented in other countries, failed to develop until they became United States products. This is due to the USA's superior ability to raise capital for such projects. This is likely on the wane and that probably isn't totally attributable to Obamacare, but Obamacare certainly is having the effect of pushing innovation away. |
