In my experience of the last few decades, this is nonsense. AMA is the most politically overrated organization in history. They have just about zero influence on licensing - it's up to the states.

The AMA got in bed with Obamacare. For supporting Obamacare the AMA received the "rights" to coding all medical procedures.

Doesn't sound like much but it is a big deal ($) for the AMA.
