You ever try to support non-technical users? They search for files and move them or trash them thinking they're just junk. And then their System won't boot.

Had that exact problem once in the Mac OS 9 days, one of the users I supported went through his System Folder and threw out anything he didn't understand. His Mac refused to boot the next day, of course, and I spent quite some time getting it back into usable shape.

Anyone experienced enough to be able to diagnose a corrupt pref and toss it, is experienced enough to learn how to search for hidden files or directories.

I have to agree with this. I was initially upset when Apple changed this behavior, but getting into the OS X Library folder is easy enough if you know what you're doing, so hiding it did make sense.

I'm less enamored with Apple forcing us to authenticate whenever adding or removing something from the Utilities (in Applications) folder, but that's easy enough to fix as well. Unfortunately it has to be redone whenever permissions are fixed.
