Given that he actually inhabits reality unlike Obama, he would definitely have been better than the lawless boob we were stuck with by low information voters.

He just seemed willing to PANDER to the right wing even after he got the nomination.

Wow, you need to exit the bubble you inhabit and join us in reality. Romney lost in a large part because he is a a liberal who could not inspire conservative voters to support him. Republicans tried twice to nominate liberals under some wacked out theory that people might actually vote for the person who is closest ideologically rather than just pulling the democrat lever.

I thought after the primaries that he'd move to the "center" and try to appeal to a cross section of voters but he never did.

No he did not, but if he had he would have gained much more support. Conservatives find voting for liberals unrewarding.
