I'd lay the blame much more with societal influences like Miley Cyrus. I don't think the cure is to make current unwed mothers (and their children's) lives so miserable that teens will think twice - because they won't.


The culture definitely does play an influence on this. That's why I would like to bring stigma and shame back into the culture. Families did this pre welfare, have a culture of shame, because they knew they would have to support the mother and kid absent a shot gun wedding.

The ony way we'll eve know is to try it--no more welfare going forward. This is a value judgment over which reasonable minds can differ.
