Crowd sourced sensor data is already being utilized. The data of geographic coordinates from cellphones in motion is being used for traffic mapping. Algorithms are able to determine where traffic bottlenecks are by watching the patterns of movement along major highway routes. That data is being monetized to navigation systems available in cars. My own Toyota Venza uses this. To get it, I must be subscribed to SiriusXM.

In the case of temperature measurements, such data is only useful when all data points are collected under the same parameters relative to a defined observation. If the observation is body temperature, then the data can't be a mix of room temperature, outdoor temperature, palm temperature and body temperature. That would be useless.

It is interesting, however, that the level of sensor integration and distribution afforded by the proliferation of smartphone technology might allow for the aggregation of real time data as never before. Aggregate heart rate monitoring might be of some interest to medical science, for instance. Can it be monetized? [???]
