Not true, the 5 is 6 months older than the S4 yet has higher salvage value and it has had comparable cost as far as I know. Even going back a year to the 4S, it has higher resale value than the S3, and that's a phone that currently retails for $400 in some places. Seems to me that the CEO of gazelle is wrong.
S3 came out before the iPhone 5. ASP for the iPhones substantially higher (largely because they remain high through the sales cycle, while Samsung phones get cheaper to purchase as they age). That has a big influence on the ratio. He could be wrong, but his entire company is based upon the phone resale business, and he appeared to be an Apple fan, so I'd be surprised if his facts were off. Note that he did specify *recent* trends... explicitly said that historically, iPhones outperformed everyone else in resale value.
