Funny having these same conversations of new technology with the right wing knee-jerks back when Toyota came out with the Prius. It was only back in 1997, but listen to them bray how they would wouldn't sell , no one would buy them blah blah. Then before they knew it 2yrs later Toyota vaulted to become the largest auto manufacturer in the world, Prius & hybrids selling beautifully.
Toyota made the coolest light reflector arrays out there on their vehicles, 10yrs ahead of anyone else, really beautiful & futuristic, everone copied them. Why does that matter? Because you can take LEDs so far, the rest is designing the most highly reflective housings for them, get the light down on the subject which is very high-tech by itself.
Savings on energy when we switch over entirely, like Elon Musk is talking about, Giga giga giga watts.
