BEIJING (CEIS) -- DURING THE THIRD QUARTER OF THIS YEAR, CHINAS HOME-MADE VCD PLAYERS GARNERED 90 PERCENT OF THE MARKET SHARES OF THE COUNTRY AND THE SALES OF NAME BRAND PRODUCTS SO FAR IS STILL STRONG, ACCORDING TO SOURCES WITH THE MINISTRY OF ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY.
STATISTICS SHOW THAT 35,230 SETS, 39,232 SETS AND 28,539 SETS OF VCD PLAYERS WERE SOLD RESPECTIVELY IN JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER; OF WHICH, THE HOME-MADE VCD PLAYERS RECORDED AT 32,006 SETS, 35,357 SETS AND 28,353 SETS WITH THE MARKET SHARES STANDING AT 90.85 PERCENT, 90.13 PERCENT AND 92.35 PERCENT RESPECTIVELY.
ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MORE THAN 300 ENTERPRISES MANUFACTURING OR ASSEMBLING VCD PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY, ONLY ABOUT 40 BRANDS HAVE REPORTED RELATIVELY BIG SALES AT ONE HUNDRED BIG DEPARTMENT STORES.
IN SEPTEMBER ONLY SHINCO, MANLATA AND IDALL BRANDS SOLD MORE THAN 3,000 SETS EACH; OF WHICH, SHINCO OF JIANGSU PROVINCE SOLD 13,659 SETS IN JULY, 15,789 SETS IN AUGUST AND 12,095 SETS IN SEPTEMBER. MEANWHILE EXCEPT THE SALES OF XIANHUA AND SAST BRANDS EXCEEDED 1,000 SETS IN SEPTEMBER AND THE SALES OF OTHER BRANDS WERE ALL BELOW 1,000 SETS.
DURING THE THIRD QUARTER, 3,224 IMPORTED VCD PLAYERS WERE SOLD IN JULY, 3,875 WERE SOLD IN AUGUST AND 2,183 IN SEPTEMBER, REGISTERING A MARKET SHARE OF 9.15 PERCENT, 9.87 PERCENT AND 7.65 PERCENT RESPECTIVELY.
HOWEVER, THE SOURCES HELD THAT THE IMPORTED VDC PLAYERS WILL CONTINUE TO HOLD SOME OF THE MARKET SHARES IN BIG AND MEDIUM-SIZED CITIES BECAUSE THEIR STYLE AND QUALITY ARE GENERALLY BETTER THAN THE HOME-MADE PRODUCTS, PLUS THE EFFECT OF NAME BRANDS. |
