Y2C Contracted for Canadian Department of National Defense Year 2000 Project

PHOENIX, Dec 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Cetacean Industries, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CTAE - news) today announces that, as part of a consortium, its holding Y2C, Inc. (''Y2C'') of Ottawa, Ontario has been contracted by the Department of National Defense (DND) for the provision of informatics professional services to ensure that DND's critical information systems are fully year 2000 compliant.

Within various departments and agencies of the Canadian Federal Government, information systems are in use which do not properly support dates for the Year 2000 (''Y2K'') and beyond. The collective cost of Y2K conversion for the Canadian Federal Government is estimated at anywhere from $1Billion to $2Billion. The outsourcing portion is estimated at $500Million to $1Billion. The total estimated cost of the Department of National Defense Y2K compliant requirement is approximately $100Million. Contractors services will be required for a period of 4 years on and as when requested from the date of awarded contracts.

The Auditor General of Canada indicated in its October 1997 Report that the inability to secure sufficient technical resources to carry out a Y2K project is probably one of the most serious concerns to senior information technology officials.
