People advanced then the same way they do now. Most people get ahead by learning skills and applying themselves.


It seemed self explanatory to me. The point is you appeared to be claiming that government education is the key to advancement. Perhaps I misunderstood what you were writing.

The first experience of the Plymouth colony was in collectivism, it nearly killed all of the participants. They then granted property rights and unleashed capitalism which saved the colony and enabled them to repay the loans for the expenses of getting to the Americas.

At no time in this country's history has education been the key to success. Some people advance through education. Most advance through hard work and learning to work smarter.

It is true that most of those who succeed also allocate a fairly significant amount of time to studying. They study for fun and profit. They don't tend to go to school. But they seem to be lifelong learners.
