OK, since I've taken a little heat from you, who will remain unknown, I define chauvinism as the 'we're better than them' blanket mentality. It's a lot more than male/female or Democrat/Republican. It's the mindset that 'my group is superior to that group or those groups, in every way.'

Those with limited life experience can be especially prone to this weak thinking, but when it happens to those who are older and theoretically wiser, it's usually the result of lazy thinking.

Cases in point: The retired engineer who watches Fox news exclusively because they never push any buttons that make him question his notion that conservative white males are the only truly smart people and are now endangered.

Or- the Christian who knows that atheists have no real values and are always out for themselves with little or no appreciation of the golden rule.

Or- the Atheist who knows that religious people are poorly educated, stupid and are the primary cause of the mess the world is in.

Very lazy thinking indeed.
