Apple was not the first who thought of the idea of a fingerprint sensor.

Neither was it the first with an MP3 or a smartphone. But, Motorola (followed by a long list of others) would tell you that you are wrong that the success is irrelevant. If you question that, look at Sony and Motorola on the one hand and Apple on the other. So, you have it all wrong. Being first isn't so relevant. Being successful is.
