Ah, well, I've already addressed this notion. Michael Harrington's book published in the late 50s or early 60s, The Other America, points out just how invisible poverty is. It's just much too much out of sight. As you may well know, that book had a huge influence on Kennedy and Johnson.

I don't think the question is different forms of poverty but different modes of addressing poverty. And that goes to the questions of the good society. I prefer one that provides safety nets for the poor, the unemployed, the elderly and that taxes the wealthy fairly.

Given the SC decision in United Citizens, we are stepping ever further away from the political tools that might head us in that direction again.
