I never understood exactly why children taught a myth at a young age have such a hard time shaking it, but as I mentioned to mar, I think it is an imprinting trip e.g. the critical period for imprinting with birds. They will imprint on a dog or human.

So they have this software virus in their cognitive hardware, that distorts their thinking does not allow them to see reality. We all struggle with this in one way or another.

We all do have massive blind spots and live in an illusions to some degree. One can even get glimpses of it if they try.

When one looks at religion as a cognitive virus, one can see that parents who indoctrinate their children in myths, do their children great harm intellectually going forward.

When I was raising my two girls part of the reason I educated myself was to make sure I was not teaching my children stuff that was not true.

I know myths are usually taught innocently. Parents don't know better. The worst ones are those who would teach their kids bigotry like racism or sexism as children.

That is a cardinal sin.
