The Washington Post reports eight Democrats joined with Republicans to oppose Adegbile, including Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey. Senate majority leader Harry Reid switched his vote to a ‘no’ when it seemed likely votes would fall short, to ensure he can bring the vote to the Senate floor again.
The "background' on this story is that the defendant's supporters have forever tried to turn a cold blooded cop killing into a racial issue of white police on black men. And the facts of this case don't support that at all--"confusing' jury instructions aside.

These Democratic Senators have to run against tough on crime Pubs. And Obama is but naive to not acknowledge that.
