I agree with you about the difference between the tissue aspirator and the ultrasonic scalpel. You are probably right about the valley lab unit also. Ethicon has been pushing an ultrasonic scalpel and I used one of their prototypes a few years ago when I used to do liver resections (younger and stupider!!) Quite frankly I had equal success with the electrocautery, which Valley has a large market in. However I found myself using both the Bovie and ultrasonic dissector in major oncologic surgery with good success..clearly these instruments are here to stay...Ethicon has come out with a more user friendly ultrasonic scalpel which I have not gotten around to trying since I only do breast surgery now!! But they are pushing it. I am not aware of misonix entering this market and likewise am not sure exactly what their autosonix scalpel does or how it differs. The issue may not be cutting faster as it is limiting surrounding tissue trauma around the dissected area..therefore promoting faster healing.
