Isn't that the key point though--the ability to raise capital. Both Seagate and Quantum each had convertibles that brought in $650mm and $450mm in that order. Quantum at the time said that the reason for they raised the cash was to take advantage of weakened industry conditions in the future--simply brill. I wonder how this cash could be effectively used in a downturn. In the next two years some and perhaps many Asian companies could find it difficult to raise capital as IMF bailouts have sapped supply. Further, if Russia needs to draw on more funds due to troubles in its banking system, then that takes even more liquidity from the available supply. Korea is 'temporarily closed'.
