Yes, but the whole question is whether this an apple to apple comparison. We were, in supporting oil an gas development, choosing to invest a clearly superior energy source if we measure BTU's per unit as the standard.

With Green sources that is not apparent. The argument is that the environmental "costs" associated with the carbon based economy will eventually outweigh the cost advantages of fossil fuels. And that may be right, but it is a harder argument to sell in the face of an established energy industry that is working on an energy production level.

The pace of the change over is what the argument is about IMHO. If you look at the problems Germany has had with its "green" conversion its not a slam dunk that the change over should be immediate.
